Margaret Stephens
Legacy fund
Margaret was born in Montreal, Quebec and grew up in Oakville, Ontario. She loved music, taking piano and French horn lessons. She was an avid horn player was a member of the Mississauga Pops Concert Band for approximately five years from 1999 to 2004. She had many friends in the Band and truly enjoyed 'making beautiful music' with them. When she moved to Calgary in the summer of 2004, she joined the Rocky Mountain Concert Band and played there for eight years, making many more friends. People were drawn to Margaret by her friendliness, wisdom, caring and strength.
Also an accomplished pianist Margaret had a true affinity for music and a fierce determination to strive for excellence and continue to learn and challenge herself, often playing both horn and accompanying on piano at our year end recitals. Margaret truly loved her time making music with friends and was an enthusiastic participant in HornFest until illness forced her to withdraw. We were all very sad to lose our friend Margaret this past summer, however she will remain a part of HornFest as she and her husband Andrew have very generously endowed us with a legacy gift. The “Margaret Stephens’ Legacy Fund” is a commitment to provide HornFest with additional funds for several years to come that will aid us in continuing to bring HornFest to Calgary and enable us to enhance and expand what we offer through the yearly workshop. |
