If What is Hornfest?
HornFest is a fun and informal horn workshop for students, adults, amateurs & interested professional players focusing on horn ensemble music and skills.
Why do you have Hornfest?
Because most students don't have the opportunity to play in a small ensemble in school. In fact some horn students are the one and only players in their band. This gives them the opportunity to play with other horn players, and become more confident in their own playing. Plus, it's a whole bunch more fun playing with other horn players.
Who comes to Hornfest?
We welcome beginners, junior and high school students, and adults as well, students and performers of the French Horn.
Is there an age restriction?
We don’t have an age restriction. As long as you've been playing for about six months to a year, you can participate in Hornfest.
Do I have to live in Calgary to attend?
Absolutely not!! We have had students from Red Deer, High River, Okotoks, and Lethbridge attend. We welcome anyone who wants to spend the weekend in Calgary with us!
Who can come?
Anyone who plays horn can participate in Hornfest. If you love to play horn and want to learn more about horn playing, you are welcome. It's all about having fun doing something you love with other people who love it as much as you do!
Do you have scholarships?
